Alert Drivers Foil Infiltration Bid, Three Rohingya Detained at Dharmanagar
Dharmanagar, Dec 17: The alertness and swift action of vehicle drivers at the Dharmanagar Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) played a crucial role in thwarting a suspected infiltration attempt, leading to the detention of three Rohingya individuals on Wednesday.
Police sources said the detainees include two men and one woman who were attempting to hire a vehicle from the Dharmanagar ISBT to travel to Badarpur in Assam. Drivers at the bus terminus grew suspicious after noticing inconsistencies in the trio’s behaviour and conversation. Sensing possible foul play, the drivers immediately alerted the police and other concerned authorities.
Responding promptly to the tip-off, police rushed to the spot and detained the three individuals before taking them to the police station for questioning. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the detainees had allegedly entered India illegally by crossing the border and were unable to produce any valid documents or passports to justify their stay in the country.
Police officials said a detailed investigation is underway to ascertain whether an organised network is involved in facilitating such infiltration attempts. The role of the vigilant drivers has been widely appreciated by local residents, who credited their presence of mind with preventing the suspects from leaving the area.
The district administration has also lauded the drivers for their responsible conduct and urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity promptly to help curb illegal infiltration. Further investigation into the matter is continuing.
