The All India Mahila Congress chief Alka Lamba on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Agartala and blamed the BJP for ‘rising’ crime against women in the country. She also criticized the Modi Government over price hikes and farmers’ issues. Lamba claimed an anti-BJP ambience is prevailing in the country, especially among women.
Speaking to the media today, Lamba drew attention to the alarming rise in crimes against women across the country. She accused the BJP of prioritizing the protection of alleged wrongdoers over the safety of women. Lamba minced no words as she equated the BJP’s approach to “Aparadhi Bachao” (protecting criminals) instead of the promised “Beti Bachao” (save the daughter).
She displayed placards highlighting the involvement of BJP leaders in rape cases including raping minor girls.
“The BJP,” Lamba asserted, “has failed to live up to its commitment to safeguard women. Instead, we see a disturbing trend where rape accused individuals are photographed alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Smriti Irani Ji.”
Lamba’s criticism extended beyond the national level as she claimed Tripura is also facing similar grim reality. She said Tripura is in top the North East’s of crimes against women. “Tripura,” she lamented, “holds the dubious distinction of topping the charts in terms of crimes against women. The state government’s inability to protect women’s interests is deeply concerning.”
“The Congress party,” Lamba declared, “is resolute in its commitment to stand by every woman in distress. In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, we will hold the BJP-led central government accountable. Justice for women is our unwavering promise.”
She said that Mahila Congress would visit every household and hold interactions with members especially women of every household. During the initiative, Mahila Congress activists would unmask the ‘real face’ of BJP, she added.
