In a late night development, the Twipra Students Federation (TSF) has called of 12 hours strike on Monday.
The strike was called demanding action against a Traffic personnel for allegedly assaulting two varsity students on January 13 last in Agartala.
Tripura ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, on behalf of the Government, held a meeting with the TSF leadership on Sunday late night.
After a prolonged meeting, TSF general secretary John Debbarma told the media that the strike on January 17 had been called off after a fruitful discussion with ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.
John Debbarma said, “In the meeting with the Minister, we have raised our demands. We are very much thankful to the Minister. Meantime, the FIR lodged by the victim students has been registered today. After prolonged talks, we came to the conclusion that TSF would call off January 17 bandh – there will not be a bandh on January 17”.
He, however said they will restart agitation if their demands were not met.
Reacting on John’s statement, the ICA Minister said, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb as well as the State government is sincere in delivering justice in this case. We are hoping that Police will take action accordingly, Chowdhury said.
Chowdhury further said, “TSF has withdrawn the bandh call – because all of us are citizens of the State, we have to stay here together. TSF leaders realized bandh is not a solution”.
He also said TSF general secretary has rightly mentioned their demand and the chief minister has showed his compassion on the issue and entrusted me to hold talks with our TSF friends for a solution.
Chowdhury also hailed the ‘cooperation’ of TSF leaders in attending the meeting at late night.
“We will look into the demands raised by the TSF soon and rake appropriate steps. And we will take steps ensuring justice to the victims as demanded by the TSF”, Sushanta Chowdhury asserted.
