As part of the ongoing anti-drug drive in Tripura, Police conducted a series of separate raids in different parts of the State apprehending six persons and recovering different narcotics like ganja, heroin and Yaba tablets.
In an anti-narcotics drive, the Dharmanagar police carried out a successful anti-narcotics drive on Sunday night, resulting in the apprehension of two individuals involved in a Yaba tablet exchange in Durgapur.
The detainees were identified as Debashish Pal from the Durgapur area and Sankar Bhattacharya from Dewan Pasha Gram Panchayat. The police search yielded a significant haul, with a total of 360 Yaba tablets, valued at Rs 15 lakh, seized from their possession.
Consequently, the police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the detained individuals.
Authorities believe that the arrest of these notorious accused persons in Dharmanagar town could potentially lead to the identification of other drug dealers.
Simultaneously, in a separate raid, Police apprehended three individuals and seized 140 kg of ganja and Rs 1 lakh in cash. The arrested individuals, identified as Atikul Ishlam, Kishore Das, and Sagar Shil, all residents of Kamalchoura in Bishalgarh, were booked under the NDPS Act.
In another operation, the Amarpur Birganj police seized 8.9 grams of heroin from a residence within their jurisdiction. It is one of the biggest heroin haul in Amarpur, so far.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Debanjali Ray and Officer-in-Charge Jayanta Das of Birganj Police Station conducted a search at the residence of Pintu Das. During the operation, Pintu Das managed to escape, but his associate Bappi Debnath (30) was detained along with 8.9 grams of heroin. Further investigation led the police to discover an additional 588 empty containers in Debnath’s possession. The estimated street value of the seized heroin amounts to Rs 25,000.
Police and other security agencies are conducting raids relentlessly and seizing as well as apprehending the persons dealing with the contrabands – however, the worrying factor is that drug menace remains unabated. The law enforcement agencies continue to encourage public cooperation in reporting any suspicious activities that may aid in reining in the drug menace.
