Aritra and Paramita Head to Argentina for Aconcagua
Agartala, Dec 16: Indian mountaineer Aritra Roy, who has already created history by successfully summiting Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, is now preparing for another major international challenge.
Roy is set to attempt Mount Aconcagua, the highest mountain in South America and the tallest peak outside the Asian continent.
Situated in Argentina, Mount Aconcagua stands at an elevation of 6,691 metres, or approximately 23,000 feet, and is considered one of the most demanding non-technical high-altitude climbs globally.
The upcoming expedition is being planned as a historic team-based mission, highlighting collaboration, endurance, and long-term vision in Indian mountaineering.
The two-member expedition team includes Paramita Sarkar, an accomplished woman mountaineer from Badharghat in Agartala, Tripura. Parmita has already demonstrated her climbing credentials by successfully scaling Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa and Mount Elbrus in Europe, the highest peaks of their respective continents.
Her participation adds significant strength to the expedition, making it a milestone journey for mountaineering from Tripura.
Both climbers are united by a shared long-term goal of completing the globally acclaimed Seven Summits challenge, which involves scaling the highest peaks across all seven continents.
The Mount Aconcagua expedition marks a crucial phase in this pursuit, with the duo reaffirming their determination to complete the remaining expeditions together, setting an example of team-driven achievement in extreme adventure sports.
According to the expedition schedule, the South American mission will begin on December 24, 2025, and the team is expected to return to Agartala by January 19, 2026.
The mountaineers expressed confidence that months of intensive preparation, physical training, and mental resilience will play a key role in the success of the climb.
Aritra Roy and Paramita Sarkar have conveyed their gratitude to the Hon’ble Governor of Tripura for extending support and encouragement for this significant international expedition.

They also acknowledged the continued backing of the Directorate of Skill Development, the District Magistrate of North Tripura, and TRLM for believing in their vision and supporting their effort to elevate Tripura’s profile on the global mountaineering map.
As they gear up for the high-altitude challenge, the mountaineers have sought blessings and good wishes from the people of Tripura, expressing hope that their success will bring greater national and international recognition to the state and inspire future generations of adventure athletes.
