A violent clash broke out between the supporters of ruling BJP and opposition TIPRA Motha Party (TMP) at Panbua village under Salema Police Station in Tripura on Wednesday.

 

In the clash, at seven supporters of both parties were injured. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

 

In view of simmering tension and panic in the village large posse of TSR personnel were sent to the area. All the injured party activists are undergoing treatment at Kulai District Hospital.

 

The supporters of the TIPRA Motha Party (TMP) held a meeting today and decided to take control of management of the Panbua Village Committee. So long, BJP activists were managing the functioning of the Village Committee.

 

After deciding the Committee members, TMP supporters assembled at the Panbua Village Committee Office premises today morning. Soon, BJP supporters also gathered there and tension started to build up.

 

Supporters of both parties were arguing each other’s claim and BJP supporters were in no mood to concede control of the Village Committee to the TMP who were also remained stubborn in their demanding.

 

The TMP activists argued BJP supporters controlled the functioning of the Village Committee for so long without any election -and the TMP activists will run the show.

 

The altercation soon turned into violent confrontation. Supporters of both parties, armed with sticks, attacked each other. Panic gripped the as rampaging supporters were attacking each other. 

 

Police, after receiving the information, soon swung into action and rushed to the spot. They managed to quell the tension and restrain the warring supporters. 

 

Meantime, at least seven activists – four TMP supporters and three BJP supporters – sustained injuries and they were taken to the Kulai District Hospital. 

 

Apparently situation became under control, however, simmering tension was palpable. To avert escalation of tension and prevent violence, Police administration deputed TSR personnel in the area.

 

TMP is the second largest party and main opposition with 13 seats in it kitty in 60-seat Tripura Assembly. Recently the Election Commission of India recognised the TMP with the State Party Status.
