Tripura observed the commemoration of the Sixth Schedule Day, commonly recognized as Autonomous District Council (ADC) Day, with a series of events and activities that echoed the historical significance of the occasion.
On this day (August 23) in 1984, the Parliament approved the Sixth Schedule for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), a crucial milestone for the Janajati-dominated regions of the state.
One of the main events took place at the Nuai Auditorium in Khumulwng, situated in the West Tripura District. Distinguished attendees at the event included Chairman of the TTAADC, Jagadish Debbarma, and Chief Executive Member (CEM) Purnachandra Jamatia, among other esteemed dignitaries.
In his address, Debbarma extended heartfelt wishes to the people of the state and underscored the vital importance of unity and peace in driving forward developmental initiatives.
The ADC Day was also marked by a diversity of programs held across various districts and sub-divisions, organized by different political parties and organizations.
Teliamura under Khowai District, along with other regions of the state, observed the ADC Day.
Apart from other programmes, Teliamura Block Congress unfurled their party flag in a ceremony held in front of the statue of Indira Gandhi, in the presence of former MLA Ashok Kumar Baidya and other local Congress leaders. Baidya, in his address, emphasized the instrumental role played by the Congress party in the realization of the ADC, portraying it as a testament to party’s persistent efforts.
At Kalyanpur under the same district, the ADC Day was a moment to galvanize the spirit of the Congress party. Shabda Kumar Jamatia, president of Khowai District Congress, attended an event in Lakshicharan Para, a Janajati locality falling under the jurisdiction of Kalyanpur police station. The gathering aimed to highlight the developmental strides brought forth by the Congress party for the Janajati community.
Meanwhile, the 39th ADC Foundation Day was marked by a spirited celebration orchestrated by supporters of the TIPRA Motha Party (TMP) at Chechua market, located within the Ampi Nagar RD block in Gomati Tripura.
Addressing the crowd, TMP leader Mever Kumar Jamatia underscored the challenges and deprivation that persist despite the establishment of the ADC in 1984. He emphasized the imperative of indigenous solidarity under the TMP banner to foster comprehensive development within the TTAADC areas.
Prominent leaders including Ampi MLA Pathanlal Jamatia and Amar Pur political district committee secretary of the TMP Debraj Jamatia were among those who graced the event with their presence.
