Bengal Polls: Sadhvi Blends Spiritual Belief with Political Reflection
Agartala/Mumbai Jan 25: Former film actor and now Sadhvi Mamta Kulkarni has once again stirred public discourse by linking faith, truth, and political power. Her recent remarks on religious authority continue to echo across spiritual and administrative circles.
Divine Will & Poll Outcomes
Kulkarni spoke about the role of divine will in electoral outcomes. She attributed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s earlier political success to spiritual forces rather than political strategy.
Recalling the last Assembly elections, Mamta Kulkarni said that despite the BJP deploying its full strength in the state, it was the grace of Goddess Mahakali that ultimately shaped the result.
Mumbai, Maharashtra: Former actor and Sadhvi Mamta Kulkarni says, “Last year, the BJP had put all its strength into Bengal, but it was the power of Mahakali, Mahakali ensured Mamata Banerjee’s victory. According to her, the victory was not merely political but spiritual in nature, guided by divine intent.
She added that future outcomes, too, would unfold according to the Goddess’s will, suggesting that speculation beyond that would be premature.
Her remarks come at a time when Kulkarni has been vocal on questions of faith, morality, and authenticity — themes that also underpin her recent criticism of contemporary religious leadership.
Debate Over ‘Shankaracharya’ Title
In a conversation with IANS, Mamta Kulkarni has reignited a larger national debate over the legitimacy and authority associated with the revered title of Shankaracharya, following a confrontation involving Swami Avimukteshwaranand during the ongoing Magh Mela in Prayagraj.
Her remarks coincided with a formal notice issued by the Magh Mela Authority, which reportedly questioned the Swami’s entitlement to use the title, bringing institutional scrutiny into what has traditionally been a religious and doctrinal matter.
Kulkarni bats for moral value
Addressing reporters, the Sadhvi stressed that truth remains the highest moral value, transcending political affiliations and ideological boundaries.
She asserted that truth itself is Dharma, and that falsehood, irrespective of who practices it, amounts to the gravest wrongdoing.
Emphasising that her worldview is not aligned with any political party, Kulkarni said it makes little difference to her whether it is the BJP, the Samajwadi Party, or any other political formation.
For her, she maintained, spiritual discipline and honesty are non-negotiable principles.
Her Personal Journey
Reflecting on her personal journey, she revealed that she has lived in ascetic attire for over two decades, wearing it daily while dedicating her life to meditation, austerity, and devotion to Bhagavat and worship.
Kulkarni’s statements place her at an unusual crossroads of spirituality and public commentary, where religious belief, personal renunciation, and political observation intersect.

At a time when debates over spiritual legitimacy, moral authority, and governance at major religious events are intensifying.
Her views underscore a broader narrative — one where divine faith is presented as superior to political calculation, and truth as the ultimate measure of both spiritual and public life.
Her evolving public role continues to attract attention, not just for what she says about politics or religion, but for how she frames both through the lens of personal spiritual conviction rather than institutional loyalty.
