Amidst blame and counter blaming by ruling BJP and Congress, tension and resentment are palpable at Kailashahar in Tripura after Saturday’s clash between BJP and Congress supporters.
Three BJP workers were injured in the political clash with Congress at Rangauti market area in Kailashahar on Saturday night and one among the injured persons was referred to GBP hospital in a serious condition.
The political clash triggered unrest in the northern part of Kailashahar as well as resentment among some of the BJP supporters is brewing as no BJP leaders visited the spot after the clash – whereas Congress leaders rushed to the area and stood behind their party supporters.
On Sunday, both the BJP and Congress held separate press conferences and blamed each other for the incident.
Addressing a press meet at Unakoti district office, the BJP leaders alleged that some Congress workers had threatened Pradhan of Rangauti Panchayat Gita Shukla Baidya and Upa-Pradhan Nurul Haque at the Panchayat office and taken away various important articles. A complaint was also lodged at Irani police station in this regard.
When the BJP workers including Kailashahar mandal vice-president Matasir Ali, Pulak Dutta and Manik Ulla were returning home after submitting the FIR copy to the SDPO, they were attacked at Rangauti market by miscreants allegedly being Congress supporters.
A bike was also vandalized, the BJP leaders alleged in the press conference, adding that the Congress workers tried to stage a drama by ransacking their party office later on.
Meanwhile, an FIR was filed against Congress workers- Manjir Ali, Ramij Ali, Seraj Ali, Mukid Ali and Nurul Islam at Irani police station at Irani police station soon after the incident.
On the other hand, the Congress unit of Kailashahar refuted allegations leveled against the Congress supporters.
Congress leaders alleged, in the BJP-run Rangauti panchayat, the names of around 90 percent poor families, mostly Congress supporters, were removed as the beneficiary under PM-Awas Yojana.
The opposition camp has been protesting in demand of house for a long time, according to the Congress leaders.
They also said, on Saturday, when the Congress members went to the Panchayat to hold talks regarding the scheme, BJP members misbehaved with them.
The Congress leaders also alleged that some motorcycles were placed in front of the Congress party office and a group of BJP miscreants vandalized the Congress party office. Later, police visited the spot and took one motorcycle to the police station.
On behalf of Congress, a complaint was filed at Irani police station against 27 persons in connection with the attack incident.
Local sources said, even as situation was stated to be under control, adequate security personnel was deployed to quell tension and thwart recurrence of any untoward incidents.
