The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced its in-charges for Tripura by-elections to be held on June 23, 2022.
The party has appointed National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, Assam minister Ashok Singhal and Nalbari MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah as in-charges for by-elections to four assembly constituencies in the 60-members house.
The four seats are – Yubrajnagar, Agartala, Bordowali and Surma
The appointments were made under the direction of All India party president Jagat Prasad Nadda, an official notification stated.
The by-elections are viewed as a semi-final ahead of the state assembly polls to be held next year.
Kailash Vijayvargiya was in-charge of BJP’s poll effort in West Bengal where the party improved its performance in the assembly polls but failed to dislodge the Trinamool Congress. This is Vijayvargiya’s first major assignment after the Bengal polls.
Meantime, an important meeting of BJP core committee was held at the state party office on Wednesday to discuss the ensuing by-elections in four assembly constituencies scheduled on June 23 next.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, BJP state prabhari Vinod Sonkar, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Union Minister of State Pratima Bhowmik, MP Rebati Tripura, party’s state vice-president Rajib Bhattacharjee and general secretaries- Tinku Roy, Papia Dutta and Kishore Barman were present in the meeting.
According to sources, the meeting focused strategies for the by-elections as well as held discussions to finalize the candidates.
BJP’s Tripura and Assam general secretary (organization) Phanindranath Sharma, who arrived in Agartala on Wednesday, attended two separate organisational meetings in 6- Agartala and 8- Town Bordowali assembly constituencies.
