Bharatiya Janata Party’s national general secretary- Kailash Vijayvargiya arrived in the state on Thursday and held an important poll meeting in the city.
Vijayvargiya and two others- Assam minister Ashok Singhal and Nalbari MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah were on Wednesday appointed as election in-charge for the by-polls to four constituencies in the state.
He was BJP’s poll in-charge in West Bengal where the party improved its performance in the last assembly polls but failed to dislodge the TMC.
Soon after arriving in the city, Vijayvargiya held an important election meeting and discussed the strategies to ensure the party’s win in all four poll-bound seats.
Meanwhile, party sources said, former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had a telephonic conversation during the meeting and he said that he would return on June 6 or 7 and start campaigning for by-polls in full spirit.
According to sources, in the telephonic discussion, Deb also said that he would continue to work for the organization and go to every booth as part of the preparations for the 2023 assembly polls.
Deb’s message visibly brought additional energy to the BJP karyakartas of the state ahead of the crucial by-elections to 6-Agartala, 8- Town Bordowali, 46- Surma and 57- Jubarajnagar assembly constituencies. The by-polls are scheduled to take place on June 23 and the results would be declared on June 26 next.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Union Minister of State Pratima Bhowmik BJP Tripura prabhari Vinod Sonkar, party’s general secretary (organization) for Assam and Tripura Phanindranath Sharma and other ministers, MLAs and party leaders were present in the election meeting.
On the other hand, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma in a press conference highlighted the major achievements of the Modi-led government over the last eight years. He said, Modi-led government is proactive.
In reply to a query regarding announcement of candidates for by-elections, Dev Varma said, “We have a system, we will follow it.”
Replying to another query that the former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb was not seen in any of the recent party meetings, Dev Varma replied, the party would decide who would work in which role; there is no scope for speculation.

In a separate programme, 126 voters of 43 families joined the saffron camp in Bordowali constituency on Thursday. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who is expected to contest the by-polls from this constituency, welcomed the newcomers in presence of other leaders. ( Courtesy: Tripura Times).
