The state government of Tripura has decided to give a boost to the agriculture and horticulture sectors by increasing the daily wages of seasonal laborers. State Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced the decision on Monday (April 24) during a press conference at the Secretariat, and the decision is already effective from April 1, 2023.
The government’s decision will benefit all seasonal laborers employed under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare across the state, with their daily wages being increased to Rs. 385.
With 715 seasonal laborers working under the Agriculture Department and 606 under the Horticulture Department, this move is expected to have a positive impact on their lives.
Over the past few years, Tripura Government implemented several policies and schemes to promote agricultural growth.
However, the state’s agriculture and horticulture sector has been struggling to keep up with the demands of the growing population.
The Agriculture Minister also shared some interesting facts and figures related to food grain production in the state. There is currently a demand for 9,37,000 MTs of food grains, while the production of food grains in the state stands at 8,71,000 MTs. The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has been working tirelessly to address this shortfall and enhance food production.
In the past five years, the department has also taken the initiative to export various agricultural products like tamarind, wood apple, jackfruit, ginger, betel leaf, lemon, and more outside the state and even to foreign countries. The state has earned a whopping Rs. 18 crore from these exports, which is quite impressive.
The decision to increase daily wages for seasonal laborers is a welcome move that will not only help farmers and their families but also contribute to the growth and development of Tripura’s agricultural and horticultural sectors. The move is expected to help boost the morale of the farmers and encourage them to continue working hard to meet the demands of the growing population.
