In a sudden move, Tripura unit of Trinamool Congress has changed the candidate who already submitted nomination from 8-Bordowali AC and another one submitted nomination papers on Monday – the last day of nomination submission.

On June 3, the Trinamool Congress announced their candidates for the four-seat assembly by-elections on June 23 next.

On the same day, the candidates of TMC submitted nomination papers for two constituencies in city – 6-Agartala and 8-Bordowali ACs.

Nilkamal Saha was nominated as the party candidate for the Town Bardowali Assembly constituency and he submitted nomination papers on June 3 last.

However, the TMC leadership changed their candidate for Town Bardowali. Trinamool Congress candidate Nilkamal Saha was replaced by a new candidate – Sanhita Banerjee who submitted nomination papers for bypolls in 8-Bordowali AC today.

However, Banerjee claimed that she could not say as to why the candidate was changed.

All that she said, it was the party’s decision. Banerjee said that the door-to-door campaign would start to reach out to voters through various programs.

Meantime, AITC, Tripura leaders are scheduled to address a press meet in Agartala today and it is expected that leaders would clarify the reasons behind changing a candidate
