The opposition CPI-M’s trade union CITU and the Congress party staged a separate protest marches at Agartala on Tuesday against the fuel price hike and rising prices of the essential commodities.
The CITU led by the former transport minister Manik Dey walked on a protest march at Agartala and slammed both the centre and the state government over the unabated rise in the prices of petrol diesel and cooking gas as well as the hike in the prices of daily necessities.
CITU leader and also a veteran CPM leader Manik Dey said that the government had failed to bring a control over the hike of the prices of petrol and essential goods. This caused the common citizens of the state and the country as a whole to suffer severe financial crisis.
The trade union leaders also urged the State government to intervene and ensure hikes in wages for the labourers in the state.
On the other hand, the Tripura Pradesh Congress leaders and workers hit the streets of Agartala on Tuesday and protested against the price hike. The protest march was held under the party’s ongoing campaign – ‘Mehengai Mukt Bharat’ camapign. The protest rally was led by Congress leader Ashish Saha, Lakshmi Nag, Radheshyam Saha, student leader Samrat Roy and other leaders.
Speaking to the media, Saha criticized the Central and the State governments on the issue of price hike. He claimed those who talk about double engine have failed to curb the rising price issue. He asserted, the Congress will continue its nationwide movement against the skyrocketing of prices of goods. This movement will continue to grow in the state, Saha said and urged the people to come out in numbers in support of the movement to put pressure on the government on the price issue.
