Tripura Unit of CPM discussed the outcome of the recently concluded Civic Body polls in the State in a day long party’s State Committee meeting on Monday.
Talking about the outcome of analysis of the civic body polls in the meeting, CPM State secretary Jitendra Chowdhury claimed around 50 per cent of total votes polled were ‘Chappa’ and the polls were totally rigged.
While addressing a press meet in Agartala on Monday, Chowdhury further claimed, after a thorough analysis of reports obtained from different sub-divisions in the State Committee meeting, we have found that a nexus between the ruling party, State Election Commission and some of the top Police official produced such a ‘farce’ poll.
The CPM leader attributed the cause of BJP’s desperation to the fact that the party had lost ‘people’s trust’ due to its anti-people policies.
It may be mentioned, CPM could win in only three seats out of the total 222 seats where polls were held. Most humiliating is that the Leftists failed to bag a single seat in prestigious Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC).
Besides, he held BJP-led Government responsible for ‘deteriorating’ law and order situation in the State and alleged there is no rule of law under the present government. Chiwdhury also presented facts and figures to justify his claim.
He also referred to the incidents of Gokulpur Harijan Colony and Udaipur Tapania gang-rapes and said both the incidents had sent shock waves – these incidents prove the deteriorating law and order situation under the rule of BJP government. Condemning the incidents, Chowdhury demanded sternest punitive actions against the culprits involved in the twin gang rapes.
Chowdhury, however, mentioned that some of the accused persons are already in Police net.
