Tripura observed the Civil Services Day on Friday (April 28) in grand and unique style. The celebration commenced with watering a plant – instead of lighting a lamp. The inauguration resonated global concern about environment and ecology.

In a silent but sure manner, the watering a plant by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and distinguished officers sent an appeal to all to come forward for protecting and preserving the nature. This style of inauguration got a huge applause from the Officers and Employees of various departments.

While celebration, as mentioned by the Chief Minister and others, aimed at recognising the efforts and roles of the Officers and Employees to ensure growth of the State, another important aspect of today’s celebration was ‘Unlocking Tripura 2030’ which aims at identification and utilisation of the potentiality of the State that can ensure higher growth rates.

The unique point of this ‘Unlocking Tripura 2030’ was that it was a participatory type initiative in which irrespective of the hierarchy, government employees expressed their views that may be exploited to achieve further development.

According to Chief Secretary JK Sinha, employees of all grades include some class IV staffs came up with ideas and suggestions on what to achieve and how to achieve pertaining to the development of the State.

He made a significant announcement that the State administration will become ‘paperless’ soon. This decision will surely make the environmental activists happy.

Coming to the ‘Unlocking Tripura 2030’, secretary Abhishek Singh presented a summary of tons of suggestions made by the government officials and employees.

He said the initiative was divided into five categories – Economy and Commerce, IT sector, Tourism, Social sector and Livelihood and employment.

Incentives like tax breaks etc were suggested to give a boost to economy and commerce. The important point was that considering India’s commitment relating to Climate change etc, the  proposals to unlock potentiality of Tripura also kept an eye on now popular buzz word – Circular Economy.

While many other suggestions on different sectors were made are either underway or in pipeline, couple of few other suggestions seem to be interesting like setting up of private residential schools, hospitals and diagnostic centres in PPP mode.

Besides, there was proposal for ‘Power for All 24X7’ and separate power feeder for Agriculture.

Apart from ring roads, more flyovers and e-vehicle charging stations, suggestions were made for introducing subsidised public transport for women and students.

For the Tourism sector, exploration of new tourist spots and developing those were mentioned by many. Alongwith ethnic and border tourism, medical tourism and IT-enabled Tourism promotion strategies, suggestions to ensure safety and security of tourists were also mentioned.

Abhishek Singh who presented the Unlocking Tripura, expected that officers and employees of concerned departments will gear up to take the State to the next level by 2030.
