A colourful rally roamed through different city roads in Agartala on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day on Monday. Tripura along with the entire globe observed the Day through different programmes.
With the initiative of Government of Tripura and Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, a colourful rally with tableau started from Rabindra Bhawan premises to mark the International Mother Language Day celebration in Tripura.
Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Chairman of Tripura Tea Corporation Santosh Saha, Agartala-based Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner Arif Mohammed, Director of Higher Education Nripendra Chandra Sharma, Director of School Education department Chandni Chandran, Director of Youth Affairs & Sports Subikash Debbarma, former Education Director Ranjit Debnath, NCC cadets, students of different schools and colleges, social activists and members of NGO participated in the rally.
Prior to the rally, the Education Minister interacted with media and offered his tribute to those who have martyred for recognition of mother language. He said, UNESCO have recognized February 21 as the International Mother Language Day. Since then, every year the whole world including Tripura has been celebrating this day as International Mother Language Day.
He said, the theme of this year is ‘Using technology for multilingual learning: Challenges and opportunities’. The theme highlights the importance of of technology to advance multilingual education and support the development of quality teaching and learning for all.
Ratan Lal Nath said, there are about 6 thousand languages in the world. But some of those languages have become endangered.
People from different ethnicities have joined the rally today to pay respect to their mother language and for the development of different languages.
Agartala-based Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner Arif Mohammed while interacting with media said, the message of this huge rally will surely reach other states. He thanked the Government of Tripura on behalf of the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh for conducting such rally commemorating the International Mother Language Day.
Arif Mohammed said, mother language is equal to one’s mother’s milk which is why it is essential to pay respect to every language. He then expressed his respect to those martyred for recognition of mother language.
