A college student was apprehended by Tripura Police at the Chandrapur ISBT bus stand in Agartala on Saturday May 13), following a tip-off, for possession of 36 grams of brown sugar.
The arrested student, identified as Aman Chakraborty (20) and a resident of Ranirbazar, now faces serious charges related to drug trafficking.
The market value of the seized brown sugar is estimated to be around Rs 1.5 lakh.
Startling revelations have emerged regarding Aman’s involvement in the illicit drug trade, with sources suggesting that he has been operating for several years. Reportedly, he would deliver brown sugar to his clients’ homes, evading police scrutiny.
This arrest once again sheds light on the gravity of drug addiction, particularly among the younger generation. The incident has raised concerns among authorities and the public alike, prompting a renewed call for action against both sellers and buyers involved in the drug trade.
The State Government, taking note of the severity of the issue, has already adopted a zero tolerance policy towards drugs and has directed the administration to take comprehensive measures to combat the drug menace. It is believed that thorough interrogation of Aman could potentially lead the police to the buyers, enabling further crackdowns on the drug trade.
Experts emphasized the need for both punitive and curative actions to address the drug problem. They asserted that the government’s initiatives to encourage youth participation in sports and cultural activities should be intensified.
Moreover, community organizations and clubs are urged to actively engage in launching a mass movement against drug addiction.
Parents, too, have been urged to be vigilant and keep a watchful eye on their children to protect them from falling prey to the clutches of drugs.
The collective efforts of society, law enforcement agencies, and families are seen as crucial to saving the younger generation from the perils of addiction.
As the legal proceedings against Aman Chakraborty started, the authorities are determined to dismantle the drug network and ensure a safer future for the state’s youth.
