Opposition leaders of Tripura visited the Ulto Rath tragedy-hit Kumarghat on Friday and meet the victims’ families.

Expressing deep shock and anguish, the Opposition leaders demanded a thorough inquiry so that the persons responsible for the mishap get punished.

In the mishap, at least 7 persons including 3 children were electrocuted after the top of the Chariot touched the overhead high-tension wire. Around 16 persons sustained injuries while conditions of at least six persons are still critical.

Several Congress leaders including State Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha and former State Congress President Ex-MLA Diba Chandra Hrankhawl met the families of those killed in the tragic accident at Kumarghat. Saha and others extended sympathy to the bereaved families and condoled the death.  Saha and other Congress leaders also visited the injured in the hospital and inquired about their health.

Later, the State president met the SDM of Kumarghat and demanded to provide all kinds of help to the injured and killed in such a tragic accident. Saha also raised questions about the role of the administration in this tragic accident.

He also demanded that a committee should be formed to find out the reason behind this tragic accident and conduct a proper high-level investigation to bring the real culprits under the law and provide exemplary punishment.

Former Chief Minister and CPIM politburo member Manik Sarkar, along with former MLA Tapan Chakraborty and local left leaders, also visited Kumarghat today and expressed their condolences to the victims’ families. 

Later, the CPIM leaders also visited the ISKCON temple in Kumarghat.

During their visit, both the Congress and Left leaders held meetings with the Kumarghat sub-district Magistrate and the Kumarghat police station officer, demanding a thorough investigation into the incident.
