Cong slams unjust seat sharing in Tripura Assembly polls, calls for unity among Anti-BJP forces for LS Polls
Tripura Pradesh Congress called for solidarity and understanding among all anti-BJP forces in the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls in 2024 to ensure defeat of the ruling BJP.
Apparently undeterred by poll debacle of INDI Alliance in the three States few days ago, Congress MLA and CWC member Sudip Roy Barman while speaking to the media at Belonia in the South District on Saturday emphasized, to defeat BJP, all the anti-BJP forces need to be united under the INDI Alliance. The all India leaders of the alliance will finalize the seat sharing and such matters which all must follow.
Roy Barman’s reaction came close on the heels of former Chief Minister of Tripura and CPIM Politburo leader Manik Sarkar’s purported statement mentioning that CPIM would go alone in LS Polls in Tripura.
Roy Barman also voiced discontent over what he deemed as the unjust distribution of seats during the Assembly elections in Tripura in which Congress was given a chance to contest in 13 seats in the 60-seat Assembly.
He said, “We wanted more seats. But only 13 seats were allocated for Congress. With a heavy heart, we accepted that decision. In the last by-polls, we wanted to contest in one of the two seats. But, CPIM preferred to go alone. We accepted that decision also”.
Roy Barman took a swipe at Sarkar’s alleged statement of contesting LS Polls alone and said, “This time it is not Assembly or by-polls, it is a Lok Sabha election. We will have follow the decisions taken by the all India leaders of the INDI Alliance and it would be wise to support Congress in both of seats.
Stressing strengthening the organisation in Tripura, Roy Barman said Congress s working to underscore the plight of the people under incumbent BJP government.
He vehemently criticized the BJP government, highlighting pressing issues such as law and order, unemployment, poverty, and other socio-economic issues.
“The absence of employment opportunities, inadequate government support for the impoverished, escalating youth involvement in substance abuse, all while the state government boasts of a ‘Drug-free Tripura,’ and rampant corruption prevail at an alarming level,” he asserted.
Later, the Congress MLA paid a visit to the residence of late journalist Prithwish Dutta at Bash Para Colony in Belonia, offering condolences to the grieving family. Roy Barman also went to meet local CPIM MLA Dipankar Sen who recently lost his mother. Test
