Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday constituted Screening Committees for ensuing Assembly elections in Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland, the party said.
Deepa Dasmunsi will be the Chairperson of the Tripura committee with Kamleshwar Patel and Sampath Kumar as members and state in charge Ajoy Kumar, state chief Birajit Sinha, MLA Sudip Roy Barman, and national Secretary Szarita Laitphlang as ex-officio numbers.
For Meghalaya, the committee will be headed by MP Gaurav Gogoi, and will have MPs Hibi Eden and Neeraj Dangi as members while state in charge Manish Chatrath, and Meghalaya unit chief Vincent H. Pala, are ex-officio members.
For Nagaland, the committee will be headed by Mohan Prakash, with Sanjay Dutt and Sankar Malakar as members, while in charge Ajoy Kumar, state Congress chief K. Therie, and party national Secretary Ranajit Mukherjee will be ex-officio members.
The committees will scrutinise the candidates and send a panel of names to the party leadership, and the Central Election Committee will give final nod to the candidates.
Meantime, amidst a possible electoral alliance ahead of the upcoming Tripura Assembly polls, five Left parties and the Congress have jointly given an appeal to the people to come forward cutting across political identity, religion, caste and community to raise a united voice against this “misrule” of the BJP and to make an end to “this black regime”.
Dr Ajay Kumar emphasized the need to understand people’s aspirations and frustration against BJP and chalk out the party’s poll manifesto accordingly.
Hitting campaign trails in Tripura, State in-charge and ex-MP Dr Ajay Kumar along with Tripura Pradesh Congress chief Birajit Sinha held a public rally at Kailashahar under Unakoti district on Wednesday. Congress leaders are terming the upcoming Assembly Polls as a fight for the people’s liberation and slamming the ruling party over the law and order situation in the State.
