Curtains were drawn on the two-day-long Buisu festival in the Dhalai district in Tripura on Thursday. East Tripura MP Rebati Tripura, Tipra Motha Chairman Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma and other dignitaries were present at the closing ceremony today.
The Buisu festival is the New Year festival of the Tripuri people of Tripura. During the festival, Tripura people dressed in traditional and colourful attire perform and participate in different programmes.
Meantime, Rebati Tripura wrote in his Facebook post, “Wishing everyone a glorious and prosperous Buisu Festival to all my Tiprasa brothers and sisters.”
Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma also took to the social media and wrote, “Attended the State Level Buisu at Hoku Twisa. I express my warm greetings on the joyous occasion of Buisu festival in Tripura. We are blessed with rich and beautiful culture, which is simply irreplaceable.”
Speaking to the media on the occasion, Tipra Motha Chairman Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma said that as we celebrate the Buisu festival, Sankranti or Bengali New Year’s Eve through various events we would have to think about our own society, a long practiced tradition in Southeast Asia that we are observing till date. It is pertinent to respect our own society and culture because otherwise, it would be a big loss for us.
He further said “Besides, on this day, we have Rebati Tripura, MP from East Tripura constituency of the state, IPFT MLA and others. We are from different parties but today we are present on the same stage among the Tiprasa people – and only thinking about the welfare and development of the indigenous people”.
Deb Barma hoped that the people of the tribal areas of the state would witness faster development if we could participate this way in future events as well.
Enthusiasm among the people of the tribal areas was noticeable during the celebration of Buisu festival.
