Torrential rains triggered by Cyclone Remal since Monday inundated the North Tripura district headquarters of Dharmanagar. Most of the Rivers are swelling and as a result, several areas have been inundated.  

Officials Visit Affected Areas, Rescue Operations Underway

Since Tuesday morning, various officials, including the North Tripura District Magistrate, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, and the Nagar Panchayat Chairperson, have been visiting the affected areas. Boats and rescue teams were deployed. Several camps have been set up, and people are flocking to those camps for shelter.

Remal-flood-TripuraThe Sub-Divisional Magistrate visited areas like Jail Road, Algapur, Shivbaari Chhara Paar, Sakaibari, Signal Basti Kamaleshwar since Tuesday morning. Rescue teams with boats have been deployed. Most houses in Jail Road have been flooded due to the poor drainage system. Algapur Road and Shivbaari Chhara Paar have also been flooded due to excessive rainfall.

A temporary camp has been set up at the Ram Thakur Ashram in Shivbaari, where people are leaving their homes to save themselves. Some people were stranded in Sakaibari due to the floods. The situation in Signal Basti near the railway line is very bad. People were being rescued there by boat by rescue teams.

A temporary camp has been set up at Rajbari under the instructions of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate to shelter people. Food is being provided by the government.

Road Cleared, NDRF on Alert

Meanwhile, the Dharmanagar Bagbasa Road was almost closed as storm uprooted trees. Forest department personnel and Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s personnel jointly cleared the road, making the Dharmanagar Bagbasa Road clear for vehicular movement. The Meteorological Department issued an early warning of more heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. Concerned officials of various departments have already prepared themselves under the instructions of the District Magistrate to rescue people and inspect how to meet the minimum needs of the people.

Rivers Overflow, Flood Situation Worsens

The Juri River has flooded the Ragna area, submerging the area under water and flooding many houses and roads. The water level of the Kamri River has started to rise above its danger mark. The District Magistrate has instructed the evacuation of people in the area, namely those in Rameshwar Tangipara Gangangar, and to set up camps along the way. The NDRF has also been asked to be ready.
