Seeking swift arrests and an impartial probe, local residents organised a silent march and tribute programme in the Kameshwar area on Monday evening.

The peaceful demonstration reflected growing public concern over the circumstances surrounding the young man’s death.

Prasenjit Sarkar was found hanging from a tree in a wooded area close to his home early on the morning of December 14, triggering shock and grief across the locality.

Men and women in large numbers joined the silent procession, using the flashlights of their mobile phones to register their protest.

The march began at Kameshwar Market, passed through Dharmanagar ISBT, and concluded back at the market area.

Speaking during the protest, local youth Nitish Dey said Kameshwar has a long-standing tradition of resisting injustice. He noted that residents have repeatedly taken to the streets in the past and were compelled to do so again in this case.

Dey warned that failure by the police to apprehend those responsible would leave the community with no option but to intensify the movement in the coming days.

He added that if Prasenjit’s family is denied justice, protests across the entire Kameshwar region would be escalated.

According to available information, Prasenjit was employed as a delivery executive with Blue Dart Courier, working out of the Rajbari area in Dharmanagar. He lived in Ward No. 3 under the Kameshwar Gram Panchayat, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Dharmanagar police station.

Family members alleged that the chain of events leading to the tragedy began on Saturday evening when a woman customer, accompanied by four others, allegedly arrived at the Blue Dart office following a phone call related to a delivery issue.

The confrontation reportedly turned violent, involving physical assault and verbal harassment. Despite apologising, Prasenjit was allegedly made to perform sit-ups while holding his ears, an act his family described as severe public humiliation.

It has also been alleged that a video of the incident was recorded and later circulated on social media, further deepening concerns and public outrage over the incident.
