The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has approved a total of 145 projects valued at Rs. 3392.99 crore for the North Eastern Region as part of the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) since its inception in the fiscal year 2017-18.
Among these projects under the NESIDS, Tripura has been allocated a total of 11 projects, amounting to Rs. 312.97 crore.
According to a statement provided by G. Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, during a written response in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, this move aims to bridge existing gaps in specific sectors within the region.
To ensure the timely completion of these ongoing projects, the Ministry has implemented various strategies.
The allocation of funds is directly tied to the progress made both physically and financially in the execution of the work.
To facilitate efficient financial disbursement, the Ministry employs the Public Finance Management System (PFMS) for the timely release of funds.
State Governments within the North Eastern Region have also been directed to adopt the Expenditure-Advance-Transfer (EAT) modules of PFMS to effectively track the flow of funds provided under the schemes.
Additionally, the Ministry holds regular high-level review meetings with State Governments and conducts field visits to closely monitor the advancement of the projects.
To enhance coordination and execution of projects within the respective states, the Ministry has appointed Nodal Officers and Chief Nodal Officers for each state within the North Eastern Region.
Under the NESIDS, all North Eastern States are eligible for project approvals up to the extent of their normative allocations.
This approach ensures equitable distribution and allocation of resources in alignment with the scheme’s objectives.
