Agartala April 3: As the political temperature rises ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has launched a stinging critique of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP).
He accused the regional outfit of leveraging “emotional slogans” to mask a lack of administrative accountability.
Speaking at a massive organizational rally in Kunjaram Para, Paharpur, Dr. Saha targeted the core ideological pillars of the TMP – Thansa (unity) and Greater Tipraland – labeling them as tools of confusion rather than concrete political goals.
The Chief Minister’s visit to the Natunbazar-Malbasa constituency was underscored by a significant shift in local dynamics, as approximately 700 voters from 203 families officially defected from other camps to join the saffron fold.
The “Thansa” Critique: A Narrative of Confusion?
Addressing a spirited crowd under the mid-day sun, Dr. Saha argued that the TMP has failed to provide a technical or geographic definition of “Greater Tipraland.”
He alleged that the movement, while emotionally resonant with the indigenous population, intentionally leaves its boundaries vague to avoid political scrutiny.
“They raise slogans without substance. One day they speak of a separate state; the next, they are silent on the specifics.
By dragging minorities and the Bengali community into this undefined narrative, they are merely creating a climate of uncertainty,” Dr. Saha stated.
He emphasized that the “politics of confusion” is a calculated move to divide the state’s social fabric rather than addressing the structural needs of the hills.
Financial Red Flags in ADC
Beyond the ideological battle, the Chief Minister pivoted to a more grave accusation: financial irregularities.
Citing reports from the State Finance Department, Dr. Saha claimed that the current ADC administration – led by the TMP – has failed to submit Utilisation Certificates (UCs) for significant portions of the development funds released by the State Government.
“The Finance Minister has been clear – the money is being sent, but there is no account of where it is going.
When funds are utilized without certificates, it is a clear sign of mismanagement.
The people of the hills are being cheated under the guise of ‘Thansa’ while development remains stalled on the ground,” the Chief Minister alleged.
News Analysis: The Stakes of the 2026 ADC Polls
The current confrontation marks a departure from the tentative “wait-and-watch” approach the BJP previously held toward the TMP.
However, the 2026 elections represent a critical juncture. For the BJP, capturing the ADC is essential to proving that its “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” (Together with all, Development for all) mantra can successfully eclipse the demand for ethno-territorial autonomy.
By highlighting the lack of “Utilisation Certificates,” the BJP is attempting to shift the election narrative from Identity to Governance, betting that tribal voters will prioritize tangible infrastructure and transparency over the long-standing promise of a separate state.
A Call for Unity and “Real Development”
Reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, Dr. Saha urged the youth currently aligned with the TMP to reconsider their path.
He described the TMP’s current trajectory as one of “intimidation and inconsistency,” contrasting it with the BJP’s promise of a transparent administration.
“If the BJP is given a clear majority in all 28 seats of the Council, we will show what real development looks like.
We are not here to talk about boundaries that don’t exist; we are here to build roads, schools, and hospitals that do,” he added.

The rally saw the presence of several high-ranking leaders, including Pranajit Singha Roy, Ranjit Das, Rabindra Reang, Saudagar Kaloi, and Jasim Uddin, signaling a united front as the party moves into the heart of the tribal belt.
As the 700 new members were welcomed into the party, the message from Paharpur was clear: the BJP is no longer willing to play second fiddle in the hills, setting the stage for a high-stakes electoral showdown where “Accountability” will be the primary weapon against “Aspiration.”
