Dr. Manik Saha – the first ever BJP MP in Upper House from Tripura – took oath as an MP to Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. Dr Saha was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu in presence of other dignitaries.
After his swearing in, Dr Saha took to Facebook and wrote, “With the blessings of Maa Tripura Sundari, I took oath in the upper house of Parliament after being elected as a member of Rajya Sabha”.
He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda and Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb for giving him the opportunity to represent Tripura in the upper house.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb congratulated Dr. Saha. “I am sure, with other dignitaries of house, you will play an important role in the policy making of the country & will serve as the voice of #Tripura for the upliftment of Tripurawasi,” Deb wrote in a Facebook post.
Dr. Saha, who is the Tripura state president of BJP, met Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed various organizational matters. He was accompanied by Tripura Prabhari Vinod Sonkar.
He also met BJP national president J.P. Nadda in New Delhi in the evening. He was accompanied by two Lok Sabha MPs from Tripura- Pratima Bhowmik and Rebati Tripura along with Sonkar.
Meanwhile, Dr Saha replaced Left Front’s Jharna Das Baidya who retired from the Upper House. In the polls held on March 31 last, Dr. Saha received total 40 votes and defeated Left Front candidate Bhanulal Saha.
