NDA presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu on Tuesday visited BJP-ruled Tripura to campaign for the July 18 Presidential poll.
During her two-hour visit, Murmu met Ministers, MLAs and leaders of the BJP and its ally Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) here at a hotel and sought their support for her candidature in the Presidential poll.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik, other leaders, ministers and MLAs welcomed the Presidential candidate at the airport and later attended the meeting.
In a Tweet, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha wrote, “Today, a meeting was held in support of Smt. Draupadi Murmu Ji, the NDA-nominated presidential candidate. At the meeting, requested every BJP-IPFT MPs, Ministers, & MLAs to vote for Smt. Draupadi Murmu Ji in the upcoming presidential election.”

Murmu was then felicitated by the MPs and MLAs of the state amid a private programme held at Hotel Polo towers in the capital city. In the evening at around 4 pm she sat in a meeting with the MPs and MLAs of the state to garner support for her candidature.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal accompanied Murmu, who later left Agartala for Manipur capital Imphal.
The Presidential election will be held on July 18. For which a team of Parliament Secretariat is scheduled to reach the state by July 16 or 17 to supervise the election process.
In Tripura, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has 36 MLAs while it’s ally, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura, has a strength of seven legislators.
The BJP at present has two Lok Sabha MPs and at present, there is no Rajya Sabha MP from Tripura as Dr Manik Saha who is the incumbent Chief Minister of state resigned from the post and is yet to take oath as an MLA.
