While all efforts are focused in curbing ganja smuggling from Tripura to other State, drugs of different kinds are entering in the State and drug peddlers are silently expanding their business at the cost of future of the youths of the State.

 

On Sunday, alert locals nabbed two drug peddlers in Kalyanpur area under Khowai district while Police detained one grocery shop owner in Churaibari under North Tripura District.

 

People of Kalyanpur police station area nabbed two youths with narcotics and handed over the detainees to Kalyanpur police on Sunday evening.

 

The detainees – Litan Deb (31) and Titu (26) both siblings – were thrashed before being handed over to police. 

 

Locals raised questions over the role of the police and said drug addiction has become rampant among the youth of Kalyanpur along with other parts of the state.

 

The locals alleged that police are playing a role of a silent spectator despite knowing everything about the clandestine narcotic business.

 

The locals demanded strict legal action against the youths they nabbed.

 

Police will register a case against the duo under the NDPS act, Kalyanpur police station Sub-Inspector Jayanta Haldar told reporters. 

 

At present, the detained persons are undergoing treatment at GBP hospital in Agartala.

 

In another incident, Police recovered narcotics from a grocery store at Kadamtala Maheshpur Bazar and arrested the store’s owner in this connection.

 

The arrested person – Nuruddin is a resident of Purangard village in Sarala Panchayat area.

 

It is learnt that Nuruddin was running a narcotics business including yaba tablets from the grocery shop.

 

According to a source, Kadamtala police raided Nuruddin’s grocery store on Saturday night and recovered 1925 yaba tablets contained in eleven packets. Police arrested Nuruddin in this connection.

 

Nuruddin however, told the police that he did not run the business, but a man named – Yasin – from the border area left the drug tablets in his shop.

 

Kadamtala police registered a case under the NDPS act against him and started a probe against narcotics smugglers.
