Tripura Police seized around 800-kg ganja from a Goods Carrier and arrested the driver at Haoibari area under Teliamura on Sunday. The total worth of seized ganja is around Rs 1crore, Police sources said.

Based on a tip-off, security personnel led by DSP (traffic) of Khowai district Sonacharan Jamatia stopped a vehicle which was coming from Agartala at Haoibari Naka point under Teliamura. During checking Police found a large cache of dry ganja. Police seized the ganja and arrested the driver. The arrested driver, Sibu Sarkar (27) hails from Lembuchhera under Teliamura and Police are interrogating him.

According to the driver, he started the journey from Agartala and was Guwahati bound. Sources suspect the vehicle was used to smuggle out ganja to other states from Tripura.

Sources said, a total of 800 kg ganja stored in multiple packets was seized and market value of seized dry ganja is around Rs 1 crore.

Even as the State Government is conducting relentless operations against all kinds of narcotics, it remains intriguing as to how the ganja-loaded vehicle managed to evade the notice of City Police and several other Police stations before being caught at Haoibari area.

Meanwhile, Bishalgarh Police recovered 14 cartoons of Mobile phones from an abundant area near Baidyadighi market under Bishalgarh PS on Sunday. Police said, the market value of seized phones stands at around Rs 30 lakh.
