Tripura Government has placed a Rs 26892.67 crore deficit budget in the State Assembly on Thursday for 2022-23 FY. Budgetary allocation for 2022-23 witnessed a 18.34 per cent growth. Budget Deficit is pegged at Rs 569.52 crore compared to estimated Rs 773.43 crore in the last year. No new taxes were proposed.
Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma presented the Budget today in the State Assembly. This is the last Budget of the ruling BJP-IPFT government before the upcoming Assembly polls.
Among other proposals, social allowance has been increased to Rs 2000 – as promised in BJP pre-poll Vision Document.
The Budget session of the Tripura State Assembly started today. The Opposition, CPM leaders walked out of the 1st day of the Session citing deteriorating law and order situation in the State and role of the Governor.
The Budget session started with Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya’s speech. However, chaos prevailed soon after the Governor started his speech.
Opposition leader Manik Sarkar criticized the role of the Governor in curbing the political violence against the opposition parties, especially CPM. Later, the CPM MLAs walked out of the House registering a protest against alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the State and political violence against the party.
According to the summary information of the Budget, receipts in Revenue Account is increased and pegged at Rs 21047.15 crore in 2022-23 compared to Rs 18,456.09 crore in 2021-22. As a result, deficit in the Revenue account has been reduced to Rs 559.74 crore in 2022-23 in comparison with 1617.15 crore. The increase in the Revenue receipts contributed in taming down the estimated Budget deficit from Rs 773.43 crore in 2022-23 to Rs 569.52 crore in the 2022-23 FY.
