Education-led development: Govt approves 2 New State Univ, recruitment to boost service deliveries

Agartala Nov 20: With sustainable development in focus, Tripura Government continues to stress on Education-led development and strengthening service deliveries.

State Council of Ministers has taken a significant step toward reshaping Tripura’s educational landscape and advancing human resource development for sustainable growth.

The Cabinet approved the establishment of two new state universities—marking Tripura’s entry into a new era of academic expansion for Education-led development.

Skill-Driven Future for Education-led Development:

* The state government has cleared the proposal to convert Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) into the state’s first Technical University, positioning Tripura to produce a more industry-ready technical workforce in the coming decade.
* All state polytechnic colleges are expected to be brought under the new university, creating a unified ecosystem for engineering and skill-based technical education.
* The Cabinet has also approved the upgradation of Agartala Women’s College into Tripura’s first Women’s University, reinforcing the state’s commitment to women-centric higher education and career empowerment.

With these decisions, Tripura’s number of state-run universities will rise to three, signalling a long-term investment in modern service-oriented education. At present MBB University is the only state-run University.

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, while briefing the cabinet decisions on November 19, 2025 said the recruitment of 407 personnel across departments reflects the government’s commitment to public welfare.

Service Sector–Focused Governance

Officials highlighted that the recent decisions reflect the state government’s shift from viewing recruitment solely as employment generation to positioning it as:

* A tool for strengthening the service sector,
* Improving citizen-centric governance,
* Enhancing institutional capacity,
* Building a future-ready workforce through education-led development,
