A state-of-the-art tea auction center has been set up in Srimangal, Sylhet district of Bangladesh. To utilise the facility, the Tripura government is making continuous efforts to auction Tripura tea in the international market and export Tripura tea to Bangladesh using this center.
The current government of the state is in regular contact with the central government and the government of Bangladesh for this purpose.
In reply to a Calling Attention Notice brought by MLA Birajit Sinha in the state assembly on Thursday, the Minister of Industries and Commerce informed the House and said the Department of Industries and Commerce and the Department of Transport of Tripura are working together to take the tea leaves of the state to the auction market of tea in Kolkata through Bangladesh.
Because the cost of transporting tea leaves to the auction market in Kolkata is much higher. If transportation can be done through Bangladesh, the transportation cost will be much lower.
The Minister of Industries and Commerce said that a DPR of Rs 11.20 crore was sent to the NEC for the modernization of the tea manufacturing factories of CTP, Durgabari and BTP, Brahmakunda (Simna) of Tripura Tea Development Corporation with the financial assistance of the North Eastern Council (NEC).
Approval has been given to modernize the tea manufacturing factory of BTP, Brahmakunda (Simna). The Department of Rural Development will start the work of modernization.
The Minister of Industries and Commerce said that a decision has been taken to set up a mini tea factory in the Machmara tea garden of Unakoti district with the joint financial assistance of the Department of Tribal Welfare and Tripura Tea Development Corporation. The Tripura Industrial Development Corporation will implement the project.
As a result, employment opportunities for small tea farmers and local people in the adjoining areas will increase.
The Minister of Industries and Commerce said that the huts located in the tea gardens of Kamalasagar, Brahmakunda and Durgabari will be upgraded to attract tourists. In this endeavor, the Department of Tourism has sent a DPR to the NEC to create a modern picnic spot with facilities such as log hut, kids play ground, car parking, boat racing centering the tourist lodge located in Kamalasagar tea garden under Tourism.
