Hotels and restaurants of Agartala have decided to boycott online food delivery platforms – Swiggy and Zomato – on commission related issues. At least, for the time being, customers will not be able to order food through these channels.
General Secretary of All Tripura Hotel and Restaurant Owners’ Association, Sumit Saha told media that they had boycotted online delivery of food by Swiggy and Zomato following the demand of ‘excessive commission’ by the service providers.
While announcing the decision in a press conference on Sunday, Sumit Saha elaborated the reason in details and said that the Swiggy and Zomato had started providing the service at 5 percent commission. Since then, Saha said, the commission structure was revised for several times which now had reached almost 30 per cent (including GST).
“The customers are suffering due to the increased commission rate. Keeping this view in mind, we have decided not to avail the home delivery services from Swiggy and Zomato”, Saha said and expressed hope that the issues would be sorted out soon.
Even as there was no positive response on reducing the commission from Zomato so far, a virtual meeting with the Swiggy officials would come off on Monday.
The association, however, made it clear that they would continue to boycott the service providers if service providers refused to reduce the demand of commission. Saha also hinted that hotels and Restaurants owners would not hesitate to explore business possibilities with other online food delivery platforms like ‘Fatafat’.
In an important note, the association representatives said that they were looking for any local service provider to make an entry at this juncture.
