Farmers’ earnings increased in a noticeable manner after the establishment of the BJP-led government in Tripura. The Central and state governments are working in tandem to make farmers self-reliant through various schemes, said Food Minister of Tripura Sushanta Chowdhury at the inauguration ceremony of the new Belbari Agricultural Sub-Division Supervisory Office at Belbari under Jirania Sub-Division in West Tripura District on Thursday.

Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare of the state, Ratan Lal Nath was also present in the programme. 

Speaking on the occasion, Chowdhury said, Our country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the highest priority to the welfare of farmers and the development of agriculture. 

At present, under the guidance of Tripura Chief Minister, Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha and the able leadership of Minister of Agriculture, Ratan Lal Nath, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is working tirelessly to solve the various problems of the farmers of our state and improve their socio-economic condition. 

Chowdhury pointed out, about 36% of the average gross domestic product of our state comes from agriculture. 

“After the establishment of our nationalist government in Tripura, the income of farmers has increased significantly”, he said and highlighted role of Central Govt schemes. 

Chowdhury said, about two and a half lakh farmers in the state are receiving Rs. 6,000 per annum directly in their bank accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. 

Besides, Farmer counseling centers are being set up in various places in the state, rice is being purchased from farmers at a support price, and the benefits of various flagship schemes of the central government for the development of agriculture are being made available to farmers. All of these combined resulting in increase in the farmers’ income. 

Earlier, farmers in Belbari and adjoining areas had to go elsewhere for any agricultural advice. Now, farmers can get agricultural advice here at their fingertips, the Food Minister said.
