The incumbent BJP-IPFT government in Tripura implemented several initiatives to ensure sustainable earnings for the framers and protect the farmers from the impact of natural calamities as well as focused on expansion of organic farming during the last four years of its tenure.
Farmers of the State received Rs Rs 185 crore due to the Paddy procurement drive of the State government.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb after extending his greetings and congratulations to the people of the state on the occasion of the 4th anniversary of the BJP-IPFT government highlighted government’s achievement in agri-sector on March 9.
He said waves of development are flowing across the state in the last four years of the present government. With the blessings of all, we are determined to build ‘Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura’.
In terms of mitigating impact of natural calamities, the State Government stressed enrolling farmers for the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Revealing the achievement, Deb said, a total of 3 lakh 2 thousand 577 farmers have been brought under insurance coverage during 2018 – 2021. On the other hand, from 2016 to 2018, only 23 thousand 454 farmers were insured in the state, he wrote in a series of social media post on March 9.
After assuming power, BJP-led government in Tripura launched paddy procurement from the farmers at the MSP for the first time.
“Paddy procurement started from the farmers of the state at Minimum Support Price (MSP) since 2018. A total of 1 lakh metric ton of paddy was procured from 2018 till now. As a result, Rs 185 crore has directly reached in the farmers’ accounts.
A total of 21 Krishak Bandhu Kendra was set up in the state during 2018-2021 for the benefit of farmers.
Besides, the Chief Minister also mentioned about horticulture and organic farming.
“In 2018 to 2021, a total of 2 thousand 805 hectares of land was brought under fruit cultivation and afforestation. However, during 2015 – 2018 period, only 669 hectares of land could have been brought under the same”, the Chief Minister said.
From 2015 to 2018, a total of 2,000 hectares of land in the state was brought under the organic farming whereas during 2018 to 2021, this was doubled and a total of 4 thousand hectares of land was brought under organic farming. The process of bringing another 15 thousand hectares of land under organic farming has been started from 2021.
