The baby girl who was sold by the father due to financial distress was rescued by Khowai district administration in Tripura on Saturday.

The recovered newborn baby is undergoing treatment in Khowai District Hospital as she is suffering from malnutrition. 

In a media report, it was came to the fore that one Khokan Debbarma sold his new born baby for Rs 30,000 on Thursday when baby’s mother was reportedly asleep. Debbarma hails from Banshipara under the Mungiyakami block in Khowai District of Tripura. 

According to Debbarma’s wife, she did not find her daughter after waking up and went door to door in search of the baby. This caused serious stir among the locals and the news soon reached media houses. Meantime, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha ordered the Khowai DM to constitute a team and investigate the matter.

The media report followed by the Chief Minister’s directive to the DM and accordingly effective action by the concerned administration helped to recover the baby girl today. The baby girl was rescued from Karbook under Gomati District of Tripura.

After recovery of the baby, Khowai District Magistrate Chandani Chandran talked about next steps and said, necessary steps will be taken after detailed discussion with the girl child’s parents. She said initiatives will be taken to held detailed discussion with the girl child’s parents and to return the girl child to her parents. In case this attempt fails, the administration will think about what steps need to be taken next. If necessary, arrangements for keeping the baby girl in the home will also be considered.

A doctor at Teliamura Hospital said that the CDPO and the police of Mungiakami police station brought the baby girl to the hospital from Karbook at around 3:30 am today. The child has become physically ill due to lack of nutrition. So he and his mother have been admitted to the hospital.
