Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha is expected to meet President Droupadi Murmu on Friday and discuss various state-related affairs, officials said here on Thursday.

In his maiden visit to Delhi after becoming the Chief Minister for the second time, Saha is also likely to meet Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar as well as a few Central ministers.

The first meeting of the Council of Ministers of BJP-IPFT government 2.0 in Tripura was held on Thursday (March 9). Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha chaired the first meeting today. The State cabinet finalized the name of Binoy Bhusan Das as the Protem Speaker. The cabinet members also discussed the interim budget.

Das was elected for the second term from Panisagar Assembly Constituency.

Later speaking to the media, Dr Manik Saha said his government would focus on maintaining the Rule of the Law, and the socio-economic upliftment of people including the indigenous people.

“Under the guidelines of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we will work to fulfil the promises made in the election manifesto. Steps will be taken to maintain the ‘Rule of Law’ across the State. Special attention will be paid to development in Health, Education, Sports and other sectors”, Dr Saha said.

The Chief Minister also said the Government will work for holistic development of the indigenous communities which are facing some issues. Meetings will be held with the stakeholders including IPFT and TIPRA Motha representatives to address the issues. 

In this connection, he made it clear BJP is not supporting the ‘Greater Tipraland’ demand. 

Commenting on post-poll violence, Dr Manik Saha said, Election was held across the State in a peaceful and fair manner. However, some unscrupulous groups are creating disturbances in some areas after the announcement of the poll results

He continued and said, such kind of acts will not be tolerated. The law will take its own course and we are committed to upholding the ‘Rule of Law’ in the State.

 After holding the first cabinet meeting, Saha, who along with eight other cabinet ministers took oath on Wednesday, left from Kolkata towards Delhi.
