The number of deaths in Tripura owing to floods and landslides increased to 10 with one person reported to be missing, a government press release mentioned on Wednesday.
A total of 330 relief camps across the State has been set up in which over 32,700 flood victims took shelter.
IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall will continue for another day in many parts of the State.
To combat the situation, at least four more NDRF teams would reach Tripura from other States while one team would be reaching the Unakoti District.
The press release also mentioned, due to very heavy and continuous rainfall over the past 72 hours (August 19 to August 21), water level of rivers in Tripura has inflated significantly leading to flooding in many areas.
High level of rainfall occurred on 21.08.2024 in West Tripura District (182 mm), Khowai District (157.60 mm) and Gomati District (153.10 mm) in last 24 hours.
Water Level of rivers in six locations across the State – in Dhalai, Khowai, South Tripura, West Tripura, North Tripura and Unakoti Districts – is above the danger mark.
This is an unprecedented situation and is being closely monitored at the highest level.
The state machinery is working very hard in close coordination with various departments to mitigate impact of disaster on citizens.
A total of 330 relief camps have been opened by the District Administrations for providing shelter to over 32,750 affected persons in the State.
The District Administrations have been providing necessary facilities, including food, drinking water, medical help etc. in relief camps.
Officers from various departments like Rural Development, Water Resources, Power, PWD(Roads & Buildings), Forest, Police, Fire Service & Paramilitary Forces have been working round the clock for last three days to mitigate the impact of floods & provide relief & rescue operations to affected families.
The heavy and extreme rainfall has triggered landslides in over 1900 places across the State since August 19 causing extensive road blockades. Roads are being cleared on regular basis.
Preliminary reports suggest damages to houses, livestock, infrastructures and agriculture crops.
The field assessment for the same has started and will be completed soon.
Till date, 10 (ten) persons have already lost lives and 1 (one) person is reportedly still missing.
More than 250 Quick Response Teams of SDRF(State Disaster Response Force), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Civil Defense Volunteers, Aapda Mitra Volunteers, Fire and Emergency Services, Forest, Power, Public Works Department, Agriculture and other line departments are deployed in the field and are carrying out relief and rescue operations including restoration as per the local needs and flood situation.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, has spoken to Home Minister, Government of India and briefed about the flood situation and requested to send additional NDRF team immediately to the state.
One team of NDRF is reaching Unakoti District (Kailashahar) by Wednesday evening and four other teams are being airlifted and are likely to be arriving in the State tonight.
As per the IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall will continue for another day in many parts of the State.
The State Government urged the people to remain calm and cooperate with the District Administration in rescue operations.
