Police recovered 44 kg 800 gm dry ganja from the luggage as well as some hidden in stuffed toys – the luggage belonged to a group of five persons including two women and a 6-year-old girl.

Even as the Tripura Police tightened vigil to curb narco-trading, the smugglers appear to be improvising and coming up with new modes of operation.

The improvisation bid became evident after the Teliamura Traffic unit along with the Police recovered more than 44 kg dry ganja, including some hidden in dolls and toys. In this connection, four persons including two women who were accompanied by a 6-year-old girl were arrested.

Acting on a tip-off, the Teliamura Traffic Unit along with a large posse of Tripura Police conducted a search among some passengers in Guwahati bound train at Trishabari Railway Station on Sunday.

The secret information proved to be authentic as police recovered 44 kg 800 gm dry ganja from the luggage as well as some hidden in stuffed toys – the luggage belonged to a group of five persons including two women and a 6-year-old girl.

Police arrested two youths – Yusuf Mia of Jatrapur and Nayan Hussain of Sonamura under Sepahijala district and two women – Paresha Khatun and Rahima Khatun of Jatrapur and Sonamura area.

The smuggling bid using a child and her toys baffled and shocked people.

DSP of Traffic, Bikramjit Shukla said the arrested persons were smuggling out the ganja to Guwahati and the worth of seized ganja was more than Rs 2 lakh.

The Security personnel, in line with the State Government’s Nesha Mukt Tripura, have tightened their grip over the smuggling. With intensified vigil, ganja smugglers are coming up with new techniques to evade police. However, with changing techniques, Police are also adapting fast and catching up with the smugglers.
