The issue of communication gap between doctors and patients was cited one of the major concern at the GBP Hospital in Agartala. This issue is set to be addressed after a meeting held on Wednesday in presence of MP Pratima Bhowmik, DM West Sailesh Kumar Yadav, members of doctors’ organization and faculty members of other clinical studies. Few other important decisions were also taken in the meeting.
Decisions to take some other technical as well as manual steps to overhaul the system of delivery of health services were taken in the meeting.
Sources said, “The first and most significant decision that has been taken during the meeting is to address the problems regarding delivery of food. The caterer who has been serving the food has refused to deliver food to every bed. The MP has said that a new caterer will be selected who will deliver food at the patients’ bed. Doctors and health workers cannot take the responsibility of serving food. The caterer will serve the food and adequate protective gear will be given to the person serving food at every floor”.
The second and most important issue that came up for discussion was the communication gap between the doctors and the patient parties. “To address the issue, a decision has been taken to appoint floor managers for every floor who will guide the doctors regarding the condition of the patients. The job of the floor managers will be to deal with every non-medical attendance a patient requires. Sometimes, it has been seen that a patient fails to get the desired article that a family member of the patient has sent for him. These kinds of issues will be sorted out by the floor managers”, sources said.
The third and very crucial decision that had been taken during the meeting was to install PA assistance facilities. “Akin to the big hospitals, telephone assistance will be installed here in GBP hospital on Thursday. Through this system, the doctors and the patients will be able to interact with each other without direct contact. The MP has directed to install these services as soon as possible. The MP has also extended monetary help from the MP development fund for any urgent requirements for the hospital”, sources said.
