A rally, themed “Go Eco, Go Cycling, Go Clean,” was held in Agartala on Sunday. It aimed to raise awareness about cleanliness under the initiative “Swachhata Hi Seva 2024.”
The vibrant cycling rally was organized by NEEPCO in collaboration with Agartala Cycloholics Foundation, which brought together around 50 enthusiastic cyclists early in the morning.
Riders of all ages participated, from children in grades 6 to 8 to spirited seniors, some over 65 years old.
The rally began at Heritage Park and wound its way to Khayerpur, then to Nepco Hall, where participants gathered for a discussion on eco-friendly practices.
Together, they took the Mahatma Gandhi Pledge in both Bengali and Hindi, reinforcing their commitment to cleanliness.
Among the passionate cyclists was Khogendra Meitai, who cycles daily and encourages others to do the same. His dedication, alongside that of his life partner, inspired both younger and older cyclists throughout the journey.
After the discussion, the cyclists resumed their journey, passing through the Nanda Nagar area, ultimately returning to Heritage Park, covering a total distance of 35 km. The event concluded with breakfast and photo opportunities, celebrating the collective efforts of the riders.
As a token of appreciation for their commitment to cycling and community engagement, NEEPCO honored ten dedicated cyclists from Agartala Cycloholics.
Each participant received a certificate of participation, and NEEPCO presented bicycle lights and horns to all riders, encouraging their continued efforts as climate warriors.
This initiative highlighted the significant role bicycles play in promoting cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
