Agartala, Mar 3: Dr Manik Saha, the Chief Minister of Tripura on Tuesday promised complete support to the family of a 19-year-old Tripura girl who was allegedly assaulted in Gurugram. The case has triggered outrage across the Northeast.
An official from the Chief Minister’s Office said the Chief Minister, who is now in New Delhi, met the victim’s parents. He expressed solidarity and assured them of all possible help.
CM Meets Parents, Orders Immediate Assistance
In a social media post, Manik Saha said he met the parents during this painful time. He conveyed deep empathy. Moreover, he assured them that the Tripura government would stand firmly beside the family.
He directed the Special Chief Resident Commissioner at Tripura Bhawan in Delhi to provide immediate assistance. In addition, the state government has decided to bear the entire cost of the victim’s treatment.
Earlier, the Chief Minister spoke with his Haryana counterpart, Nayab Singh Saini. Saini assured him that authorities would ensure justice in the Gurugram assault case.
Meanwhile, Tripura Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy visited the hospital. He reviewed the situation and extended support to the victim.
The Chief Minister also contacted the office of the Union Health Minister. He sought the best possible medical care for the injured student.
How the Gurugram Assault Case Came to Light
The victim, a biotechnology student in Gurugram, allegedly faced brutal torture by her live-in partner, identified as Shivam (19). The incident surfaced in the third week of last month.
According to her mother, the accused befriended the girl through online chats. He reportedly promised marriage. Later, he allegedly confined her in a room for three days.
During that period, he allegedly beat and burned her repeatedly. In a distress call to her mother, the girl said she feared for her life. She claimed the accused had assaulted her continuously and might kill her.
The mother further alleged that the accused forced her daughter to drink urine. She also claimed he burned her private parts using sanitiser and stabbed her multiple times.
Police Action and Legal Charges
After receiving the call, the mother approached Gurugram Police. Officers rescued the girl and admitted her to hospital without delay.
Police arrested the accused from Delhi’s Narela area on February 19. They registered an FIR at Badshahpur police station in Gurugram.

Initially, police added assault charges. Later, they included rape charges in the FIR. The court has sent the accused to judicial custody. Investigation is ongoing.
Victim Under Treatment in Delhi
Doctors first admitted the victim to AIIMS in Delhi. She now continues treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in the national capital.
The victim’s mother described her daughter as a bright student who moved to Gurugram only for higher studies. She demanded strict punishment for the accused and speedy justice in the Tripura student assault case. (With IANS inputs)
