On the occasion of World Wetlands Day, a seminar was organized by the Tripura E.I.A.C.P. Hub under the supervision of the Tripura State Pollution Control Board. The event took place on Friday, with the theme of the discussion being “Wetlands & Human Wellbeing”. The theme, which emphasizes the role of wetlands in human well-being, is also the central theme of this year’s World Wetlands Day observance.
Several dignitaries, including Dr. K Sasikumar, I.F.S., the Secretary of the Department of Science, Technology and Environment and Chairman of the Tripura State Pollution Control Board attended the seminar. Other notable attendees included Mahender Singh, Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Environment, Government of Tripura; Dr. Bishu Karmakar, Member Secretary of the Tripura State Pollution Control Board; and Aprajita Das, Coordinator of the Tripura E.I.A.C.P. Hub.
The keynote speaker for the occasion was Prof. Sabyasachi Dasgupta, a professor from the Department of Forest and Biodiversity at Tripura University. The event saw participation from students and teachers from various institutions across the city.
During the seminar, officials emphasized the crucial role that wetlands play in the well-being of mankind and the environment. They highlighted that clean and pollution-free wetlands are indicative of a pollution-free environment and a healthy human society.
The participants were urged to contribute to the preservation of wetlands by keeping them free from pollution. This call to action highlighted the importance of individual responsibility in maintaining the health and well-being of our natural environment.
