A long-neglected hamlet in Tripura situated amidst serene natural beauty remained obscure for around 70 years owing to the utter apathy of the government. Good to see that the incumbent government has taken initiative to develop the hamlet as an attractive tourist spot.

Located around 15-km away from Kanchanpur in North Tripura, there is a waterfall and a lake in the lap of virgin nature at Sanada para Kachari area under Laljhuri block. The hamlet is also home to over 100 Reang families.  There is no proper approach road to the village. Besides, the village lacks electricity and drinking water facilities. The beauty of the spot and plights of the villagers remained behind the veil of apathy and negligence for years.

Waterfall-Tripura-Tourism“We have urged the administration, local leaders and other influential persons to provide us minimum basic amenities like road, electricity and drinking water – but, apart from assurances, nothing has changed over the last six decades”, alleged the villagers.

However, the glow of the natural beauty is set to enthrall the tourists as the State government has launched a developmental initiative to transform the hitherto unexplored waterfall and lake into a tourist spot. The initial step started with the construction of a 4-km approach road. Paper blocks will be used to construct the road and expenditure is pegged at around Rs 2 crore 4 lakh.

The works have already started – and District Magistrate and Collector of North District Nagesh Kumar B along with BDO of Laljhuri RD Block Himendu Pal went to oversee the works. Speaking to the media, the BDO said the road construction works would be completed within a month.

Referring to the power supply and drinking water, the BDO of Laljhuri said, the government has prepared a complete plan for the village. Within three months after the road construction, power supply and water supply connections will be provided.

Once the site finds a place in the map of tourism, new livelihood avenues for the locals will be created, officials commented.
