Police Crack Inter-State Drug Network in Dharmanagar
Dharmanagar, Dec 15: In a serious blow to organised narcotics smuggling in North Tripura, Dharmanagar police have dismantled a key link of an inter-state drug trafficking network, leading to the arrest of three women and the seizure of a massive consignment of yaba tablets.
The breakthrough came following a targeted operation launched on the basis of specific intelligence inputs. A special police team, led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jayanta Karmakar and Dharmanagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mina Debbarma, conducted a well-coordinated raid that resulted in the recovery of nearly 44,000 yaba tablets.
Police sources said the seized contraband is estimated to have a black market value exceeding ₹2.5 crore, underlining the scale of the illegal operation. Preliminary findings suggest that the arrested women were actively involved in transporting narcotics across district and state boundaries, using discreet routes to evade detection.
The accused have been identified as Afia Begum and Ankuri Bibi, both residents of the Kakraban area in Udaipur, and Mafia Begum, a resident of the Sunamura area. Investigators believe the trio played a crucial role in the distribution chain of the drug network.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the drugs and identify other members of the trafficking syndicate.
North District Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai stated that the police are maintaining a firm stance against drug-related crimes and will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations to curb the menace of narcotics in the region.
