On the day of International Women’s Day, the new BJP-IPFT government has decided to appoint two indigenous woman leaders of the State to a Board or PSU. The new Government that took oath Wednesday (March 8) took a decision to appoint Jayanti Debbarma and Patal Kanya Jamatia to a Board or PSU with a Minister of State rank.
This happens to be the first decision of the new BJP-IPFT 2.0 government.
Jayanti Debbarma is an IPFT leader and daughter of former Minister and IPFT supremo late NC Debbarma.Patal Kanya Jamatia is the vice president of State unit of BJP.
Both unsuccessfully contested the February 16 Assembly Polls. Jayanti Debbarma contested from Asharambari while Jamatia contested from the Ampinagar Constituency. Both of them were defeated by TIPRA Motha Party (TMP) candidates. The TMP emerged as the second largest Party with 13 seats in its kitty out of total 60 seats.
The decision of the government evoked good response among the women in particular the indigenous people.
Besides, several programmes were held commemorating the International Women’s Day. Different organizations felicitated women for their contributions in different fields. Among others Journalist Chitra Roy, academician Chandrika Basu Majumder, social activist Phulan Bhattacharjee, Dr Sushila Devi for healthcare, writer Suchismita Mahapatra and Padmini Chakraborty were felicitated.
Five women – Juli Dasgupta, Mantali Reang, Neela Chowdhury, Dulan Biswas and Kabita Dhar – were felicitated at Kailashahar today as part of International Women’s Day observance. Chetna Charitable Trust organized the programme.
