The coverage under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Tripura has increased from 3 percent before March 2018 to 38 percent at present. The ambit of the Mission is set to be expanded to cover 43 percent in the State.  

 

In another round of high-level joint meeting, Deputy Chief Minister, also the Power Minister Jishnu Dev Varma along with DWS Minister Sushanta Chowdhury reviewed the role of the Power department in implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission Scheme in joint action programmes with the DWS.

 

Jal-Jeevan-Mission-Tripura-JJMUpdating the Ministers about the progress since the last joint meeting held on December 7 last, chief Engineer of DWS Rajib Debbarma said, a total of 181 projects for supplying drinking water are ready whilst more 288 such projects will become operational from December 2021.

 

Debbarma further said, for successful implementation of these projects, the Power Department has allocated 167 transformers and the remaining 14 transformers will soon be allocated.

 

Talking about the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Tripura, Debbarma said, under the Mission, only 3 percent was covered before March 2018 and at present, the coverage increased to 34 percent. Besides, steps have been taken to provide new water supply connections to additional 29 thousand households – this will increase the coverage under the Mission to 43 percent.

 

In achieving the target of Jal Jeevan Mission in Tripura, the Power department is also ensuring an adequate and smooth power supply. According to Director of State Electricity Corporation (Technical) Debashish Sarkar, a target has been set by the power department to make 181 transformers operational by the second week of January 2022.   In the second phase, works for setting additional 200 transformers will be done within February 2022, Sarkar said.

 

He further informed the Ministers that works to provide power supply to 722 small-bore Deep Tubewells of the DWS will be done within December of the current year.

 

Jishnu Dev Varma and Sushanta Chowdhury emphasized the completion of works undertaken as joint initiatives of the Power Department and DWS in a time-bound manner.
