Agonizing wait for a building is over for pupils and their guardians of Charilam area in Tripura.
Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma inaugurated the newly constructed two storied school building of pre-independence era school – Charilam Higher Secondary (+2) School ( now it is named as Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee class XII School) at Charilam on Wednesday (Dec 14).
Among others, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath and Sabhadhipati of Sepahijala Zila Parishad Supriya Das Datta were present in today’s programme.
After the inauguration, Dev Varma said the school has a new modern building and has become an English Medium Vidya Jyoti School. Today after 76 years the dream of the people of Charilam have been fulfilled.
“The school is funded through RIDF ( NABARD) sanctioned in 2020 and in one and half years it was completed. Few more months were required for exterior and demolition of dilapidated structures ( GCI roofing) “, the Deputy Minister said.
The School was established in 1946 and functioned from a dilapidated structure. The construction works of the building started in 2020 – the works were hampered owing to Corona pandemic for a long time. Total Rs 7 lakh 5 thousand were spent.
The new building is fitted with well decorated and furnished 20 classrooms, four Library rooms, two teachers’ rooms, an auditorium and one dining room in the newly constructed facility.
Jishnu Dev Varma who is an MLA elected from the Charilam constituency promised prior to the 2018 Assembly Polls that the School would be converted into a new building if BJP came to power. He also promised to build a mini Stadium.
“ I am glad that I have fulfilled both promises that I made before the Assembly elections in 2018”, Dev Varma said.
The upgradation of the pre-independence period school was a long standing demand and it took around 76 years to ultimately materialize.
