Joyful learning vital for holistic growth: CM
Agartala Feb 9: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha said on Monday that teachers are the backbone of society and play a key role in shaping the nation’s future.
He said today’s students will become tomorrow’s leaders. Therefore, teachers must guide students not only through textbooks but also through values and healthy mental development.
Dr. Saha made these remarks while inaugurating a three-day Regional School Leadership Workshop and Review Programme at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala.
The National Centre for School Leadership (NCSL), the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi, and the State NCERT jointly organised the programme.
Education Department Secretary Dr. Milind Ramteke, NIEPA Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sasikala Wananjari, SCERT Director L. Darlong, Director of School and Basic Education Rajib Dutta, Director of Kokborok and Other Backward Languages Anandahari Jamatia, NCSL Professor Dr. Santbana G. Mishra, and other dignitaries attended the programme.
The Chief Minister said teachers should think beyond classroom teaching. He urged them to contribute positively to society and help create a healthy social environment.
He said a joyful learning atmosphere helps students grow mentally and emotionally. He added that every educational institution must review its system and give priority to students’ mental health.
Dr. Saha said students must learn not only to earn degrees but also to learn continuously from society. He added that the government has introduced a new education policy to secure students’ future.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s remarks, he said educated youth are the country’s greatest strength. He said the nation must guide this strength in the right direction to build a developed India.
He also stressed the need to connect students with Indian culture, tradition, and heritage along with science-based education.
The Chief Minister urged teachers to keep pace with changing times and adopt modern teaching methods.
He said the state government has launched several projects for students’ present and future needs. He stressed the need for proper monitoring during their implementation.

Dr. Saha said India once had a world-renowned education system. He said foreign rule weakened it.
The Chief Minister added that the Prime Minister is working to restore its past glory through education reforms. He said the state government also aims to support this effort with a modern and timely education system.
